Part 4

This was by far my favorite part yet. The dark box took away any walls that these boys had up as protection. All their fears and inside thoughts came out and I was captivated. Their musings about how the laws are just educated guesses at right and wrong were really interesting, because it's so true. We only do what is "right" because we learn from an early age what should and shouldn't be done. Some of us follow those rules blindly but others begin to question it. And this Heartland war seems to have not fixed anything with debates of human life.
I also thought the part about consciousness was really cool. Connor thinking about himself being stretched out all over the place as an unwind really blew my mind. I keep putting myself in their shoes and I wonder what I would have done.
Lastly, isn't it weird to think that normal life is still going on while these kids are just trying to survive? They talk about the Olympics and an orchestra master (175-176) but real life correlating with this book is so strange to me. The fact that they can joke about their parts being spread everywhere shows that they're afraid but still trying to be brave.
